Your fireplace can operate in two ways: Using wood (solid fuel) or using the installed burner.
1. Open the Damper
Before lighting any fire, make sure the damper is fully open. The damper allows smoke and combustion gases to rise through the chimney and prevents smoke from entering the home.
2. Two Ways to Start the Fire
There are two options:
Using wood – Start with kindling and a fire starter, then gradually add small dry logs.
Using the burner – You can turn on the burner to create initial heat and warm up the chimney.
Using the burner at startup helps establish proper draft.
3. Build Strong, Healthy Flames
Allow the fire to develop until the flames are strong and active. Strong flames create draft that pulls smoke all the way up the chimney (approximately 25–26 ft high).
4. Balance Air Pressure
If the home is tightly sealed and the draft is weak at startup, slightly open a nearby window for a few minutes. This helps balance air pressure and allows the chimney to draft properly.
5. Maintain Active Flames

During operation, keep visible, active flames. Do not allow wood to smolder, as smoldering wood can cause smoke to enter the home.
6. Using the Burner to Finish the Burn
If you do not want to add more wood but there are still partially burned logs:
Turn on the burner.
The burner will raise the temperature and help complete the burn.
This prevents leftover wood from smoldering and creating smoke.
7. Final Stage
Allow the wood to burn down completely to ash. Once there are no active flames or embers, the fireplace can be safely closed according to normal procedure.
